Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2013 release shows an intense ruby color. The nose is layered and complex, with ripe red berries, wild strawberry, cherry, dried rose petals, tea leaves, herbs, white pepper, and a subtle thread of toasted oak and minerality. The palate is seductive and precise, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity carrying wave after wave of flavor. Despite its concentration, the wine remains graceful rather than heavy, unfolding beautifully with air. It has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve positively for years, gaining even more nuance and complexity over time.

Production
Fruit is sourced from Sine Qua Non’s own vineyards, including Eleven Confessions and Cumulus, where meticulous farming and extreme selection are central to the style. The wine is built primarily on Grenache, with small amounts of Syrah and possibly other varietals depending on the vintage, reflecting Krankl’s highly intuitive approach to blending. The emphasis is on capturing the full expression of the terroir while preserving purity, structure, and aromatic lift.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, duck breast, herb-crusted game, braised short ribs, or rich Mediterranean dishes with tomatoes and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and layered texture to fully open.
