Sella & Mosca Carignano del Sulcis Terre Rare 2025

Sella & Mosca Terre Rare is a still red wine that offers an expressive take on Carignano del Sulcis, Sardinia’s distinctive coastal appellation. Made from sun-ripened Carignan grown in sandy soils, it combines generous fruit, soft tannins and measured oak influence; the wine was created for the historic estate by oenologist Giovanni Pinna.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red with violet hues, it opens with aromas of wild blackberry and pomegranate, alongside hints of liquorice. The palate is warm and generous, with ripe fruit, soft tannins and a long, spicy finish shaped by its oak ageing. The wine is described as having notable ageing potential. Its extended maturation also gives it the structure to develop further in bottle.

Production
The Carignan vines grow as bush vines in sandy soils along Sardinia’s southwestern coast, between Capo Teulada and the Iglesiente range, where intense sunshine and sea breezes influence the grapes. Harvest usually takes place in the first week of October. Fermentation with the skins takes around ten days in stainless-steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation also completed. The wine then matures for at least three years, beginning in barrels and followed by a period of bottle rest.

Food & Serving
Pair its ripe dark-fruit character and spicy finish with grilled or slow-roasted lamb, richly seasoned sausages, or aged pecorino. Serve at around 16–18°C. If opening a young bottle, give it 30–60 minutes in a decanter to let the aromas unfold.

Terre Rare was created by oenologist Giovanni Pinna as an expression of Carignano del Sulcis, drawing on the character of the region’s coastal sandy vineyards.
