Sella & Mosca’s Alghero Torbato Terre Bianche Cuvée 161 is a distinctive Sardinian white that showcases one of the island’s most historic and characterful grape varieties. Made from 100% Torbato grown north of Alghero, it combines coastal freshness, local heritage, and the precision winemaking that has made Sella & Mosca a reference point for the region.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, this wine offers a delicate but defined profile, with aromas that often lean toward white flowers, citrus, Mediterranean herbs, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate it is fresh and linear, with a crisp structure, a saline touch, and enough body from its élevage to give the wine more depth and persistence than a simple unoaked white. The long maturation in Allier barriques adds texture and structure while helping the wine develop complexity over time. While it can be enjoyed for its youthful brightness, Cuvée 161 should also age gracefully for a few years, gaining nuance and roundness.

Production
The vineyards lie on chalky white soils near Alghero, in a coastal Sardinian setting shaped by Mediterranean breezes and strong sunlight. Torbato is trained on traditional Sardinian pergola systems to protect the fruit from direct sun exposure, while vineyard work is carefully planned according to production estimates and monitored with aerial photography to preserve the ideal microclimate for the grapes. Harvesting and vinification are guided by Sella & Mosca’s long study of this ancient variety, and the wine is then aged for an extended period in Allier barriques to build structure and complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, risotto, light pasta dishes, and fresh Mediterranean cuisine. It is best served well chilled, around 8–10°C, and does not typically require decanting, although a few minutes in the glass can help the aromas open up.

Founded in the early 20th century, Sella & Mosca is one of Sardinia’s most important and historic wine estates, and the first major winemaking complex on the island to extensively work with Torbato.
