Description

Sekthaus Raumland XIV. Triumvirat Grande Cuvée Brut 2014 is one of Germany’s benchmark sparkling wines, crafted in the traditional method and sourced from top sites in Rheinhessen. Blending Chardonnay, Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling), it follows the great Champagne model while expressing a distinctly German precision and clarity. With extended maturation on the lees and fruit from a Grosses Gewächs classified vineyard, this is a collector-worthy Sekt with true grandeur and finesse.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2014 Triumvirat Grande Cuvée Brut shows a luminous, pale lemon-gold hue with fine, persistent mousse and delicate bead. The nose opens slowly and elegantly, with hints of lemon oil, white blossom and crisp green apple interwoven with nuances of brioche, chalky stone and a subtle nuttiness from long lees aging. It’s initially restrained, but with air the complexity builds, revealing layers of citrus zest, fresh pastry and a gentle smokiness. On the palate, this Sekt is impressively taut and linear, with a very slender, almost weightless frame resting on remarkable depth and structure. Bright acidity and a pronounced mineral core drive the wine, supported by a fine, creamy mousse that adds texture without heaviness. Notes of Meyer lemon, green pear and underripe nectarine are joined by hints of toasted bread, almond and delicate yeast complexity. The finish is long, saline and ultra-fresh, suggesting significant aging potential. Properly cellared, this 2014 has at least another 8–10 years of graceful development ahead, gaining further tertiary nuances while maintaining its vibrant spine.

Production
The Triumvirat Grande Cuvée Brut 2014 is sourced from the renowned Dalsheimer Bürgel site in Rheinhessen, classified as a Grosses Gewächs vineyard and known for its limestone-rich soils that lend the wine its signature precision and mineral tension. Grapes of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation takes place using the traditional method (méthode traditionelle), with the second fermentation in bottle. The base wines are carefully blended to achieve balance and complexity before bottling for prise de mousse. The cuvée then spends over eight years aging on its lees, building depth, texture and aromatic complexity, before being disgorged in October 2019 and released with a finely judged Brut dosage to preserve its razor-sharp freshness.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic sparkling wine that shines alongside refined, delicately flavored dishes. Try it with oysters, scallop crudo, tuna tartare or sushi, or pair it with classic Champagne partners such as caviar, blinis with crème fraîche, and lightly smoked fish. It also works beautifully with poultry in light cream sauces, veal carpaccio, or a simple roast chicken with herbs, as well as aged hard cheeses and soft-ripened styles like Brie or Camembert. Serve well-chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a white wine or tulip-shaped sparkling glass to allow the aromatics to unfold. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or an elegant, short decant into a carafe can help this wine open up, especially in its youth.

Producer
Sekthaus Raumland, based in Rheinhessen, is widely regarded as one of Germany’s foremost sparkling wine specialists and a key figure in the modern renaissance of premium German Sekt. Founded by Volker Raumland, the estate has focused from the very beginning on traditional-method sparkling wines, long before the current quality-driven Sekt movement took off. Working primarily with classic Champagne varieties and top vineyard sites, Raumland has helped redefine what German sparkling wine can be, earning top scores and accolades from leading critics and publications, including Falstaff, where earlier vintages of Triumvirat have taken first place in prestigious Sekt tastings. Today, Sekthaus Raumland is considered a reference point not only in Rheinhessen, but in all of Germany, for those seeking world-class sparkling wines with meticulous craftsmanship and long aging potential.
