Description

Sekthaus BurkhardtSchür Blanc de Blancs Brut is a 100% Chardonnay sparkling wine, combining ripe fruit and brioche-like complexity with a fine, fresh mousse. Its traditional bottle fermentation and extended lees ageing give this cuvée a depth and texture reminiscent of fine Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with warm, freshly baked toast and ripe yellow fruit, followed by hints of chestnut honey and a delicate note of butter truffle with pear eau-de-vie. On the palate, it is concentrated and supple, with dark spice and a satisfying, creamy depth. A discreet acidity and elegant, lively bubbles bring freshness and balance.

Production
For the described lot, the Chardonnay grapes came from light loess soils over weathered volcanic rock at the Kaiserstuhl. The 2016 base wine spent 11 months on its full lees in barrique and underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It was then bottle-fermented using the traditional method and aged on the lees for 39 months. Disgorged in November 2020, the wine received a low dosage of 2 g/l. Harvesting details and further ageing potential are not specified.

Food & Serving
Its depth and freshness make it a good match for roast poultry, scallops, creamy mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Decanting is generally unnecessary for sparkling wine; open shortly before serving to preserve its mousse.
