Description

Seguin-Manuel’s Vosne-Romanée Aux Communes 2021 is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most sought-after villages. Sourced from a prized lieu-dit just east of La Tâche Grand Cru, it combines the finesse and depth associated with Vosne-Romanée with the house’s modern, hands-off approach in the cellar. It’s a wine that captures both the historic prestige of the appellation and the pure, elegant style Thibaut Marion has refined at Seguin-Manuel.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2021 shows a bright, luminous ruby hue typical of a refined Pinot Noir. The nose is fragrant and precise, with fresh red and dark berry fruit layered with delicate spice, floral notes, and a subtle mineral edge. The palate is silky and harmonious, with juicy, fresh fruit at the core, finely judged structure, and a graceful sense of balance. The oak is well integrated, adding texture and quiet complexity rather than dominating the wine. The finish is long and persistent, with a lifted, elegant character that suggests very good aging potential over the coming years, while already offering pleasure now.

Production
The grapes come from Aux Communes, a highly regarded lieu-dit in Vosne-Romanée, where the terroir benefits from an enviable position close to some of Burgundy’s most famous vineyards. In 2021, the wine was made entirely from destemmed grapes and underwent gentle maceration to preserve elegance and clarity. It was then aged for 16 months in traditional Burgundy barrels, with 30% new oak, allowing the terroir-driven character to remain front and center while gaining depth and refinement.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for fine poultry such as pheasant, guinea fowl, or duck, as well as roasted game birds and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 14°C and, if possible, give it a brief decant to open up the aromatics and soften the wine’s youthful structure.

Producer
Seguin-Manuel is a historic Burgundy estate with roots going back more than 200 years, and under Thibaut Marion it has embraced a more contemporary, precise approach while preserving its traditional identity. Marion’s philosophy is notably restrained, focusing on letting the vineyard speak with as little intervention as possible. The result is a house style known for purity, elegance, and a clear expression of terroir, qualities that have helped Seguin-Manuel earn growing respect among Burgundy lovers.
