Description
Seguin-Manuel’s Meursault Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a finely tuned expression of one of Burgundy’s most iconic white-wine appellations. Made with a notably restrained, modern touch by Thibaut Marion, it combines classic Meursault richness with remarkable freshness, precision, and mineral drive.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a luminous golden hue, hinting at both ripeness and purity. The nose is deeply Meursault in character, with aromas of cold butter, toasted hazelnuts, and juicy yellow apples, lifted by a cool, stony edge that adds refinement and energy.
On the palate, it is layered and elegant rather than overtly opulent, with a creamy texture balanced by bright acidity and a clear mineral backbone. The oak influence is subtle and well integrated, allowing the wine’s tension and finesse to shine through. It has the structure and concentration for excellent aging potential, and will continue to gain complexity over time.
Production
The grapes come from a single parcel in the northern part of Meursault, an area known for producing wines with a cooler, more linear profile. Thibaut Marion works with a hands-off philosophy, intervening as little as possible in both vineyard and cellar to preserve the character of the site. Gentle oak aging is used sparingly to support, rather than mask, the natural elegance and freshness of the fruit.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine at around 14°C in large Burgundy glasses to allow its aromatics and texture to open up fully. It pairs beautifully with baked or grilled white fish, as well as soft, creamy cheeses, and a brief decant can be helpful if serving young.
Producer
Seguin-Manuel is a respected Burgundian producer with deep roots in the region, and today it is guided by Thibaut Marion, whose careful, minimal-intervention style reflects a modern interpretation of classic Burgundy. The domaine is particularly valued for its ability to capture terroir-driven precision and authenticity, and wines like this Meursault showcase why the producer continues to earn attention among lovers of fine white Burgundy.
