Description
Seguin-Manuel’s Corton Rouge Grand Cru Rognet 2018 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most powerful Grand Cru sites, shaped by the Pinot Noir grape into a wine of depth, precision, and unmistakable class. Corton-Rognet, a named parcel within the Corton Grand Cru, is traditionally known for structure and aging potential, while Seguin-Manuel’s elegant hand has brought a more graceful, approachable balance to the wine.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep, concentrated colour in the glass. On the nose, it is rich and inviting, unfolding layers of dark forest berries, red currant, plum, violets, and a polished toasted oak character with spice and vanilla.
The palate is broad and layered, with fine-grained tannins that are supple yet clearly present, giving the wine real presence at the table. Its finish is long and complex, marked by the depth and persistence typical of a Grand Cru site. While already enjoyable, this is a wine that will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 10–20 years, developing notes of leather, forest floor, and dried fruit.
Production
Corton-Rognet is a lieu-dit within the Corton Grand Cru in Burgundy, a terroir prized for producing structured Pinot Noir with impressive longevity. The vineyard’s natural tension of acidity and tannin is softened here by Seguin-Manuel’s restrained, elegant winemaking style. The wine was matured for 16 months in oak barrels, adding subtle complexity, spice, and a refined toasted dimension without overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Pinot Noir is an excellent match for roasted duck, game birds, veal, lamb, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if drinking young, to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
