Description

Seguin-Manuel’s Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a beautifully judged expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated white-wine communes. Crafted from old-vine Chardonnay and shaped by a purist winemaking approach, it combines Chassagne-Montrachet’s hallmark richness with a precise, mineral-driven freshness that gives the wine remarkable balance and lift.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2023 shows the generous, golden-toned appeal expected from Chassagne-Montrachet, with aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus peel, butter, toasted nuts, and gentle spice. The palate is layered and silky, offering juicy, mature fruit and a creamy texture, yet it stays remarkably vibrant thanks to a clean mineral edge and refreshing acidity. The result is a wine that feels fuller and more concentrated than its weight suggests, with tension and finesse keeping everything in harmony. It should drink beautifully now, but with its structure and depth, it also has the potential to develop additional complexity over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from a small parcel in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, from the site known as Les Gougeonnes, where the terroir naturally supports ripe, expressive Chardonnay with depth and character. The wine is produced with a focus on purity and freshness, reflecting winemaker and owner Thibaut Marion’s restrained style, which aims to preserve the vineyard’s mineral identity. After fermentation, the wine matured for 15 months sur lie in traditional barrique barrels, with 20% new oak. This élevage adds subtle texture, spice, and complexity without overpowering the wine’s core sense of place.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled white fish, roast or poached poultry, lobster, and rich shellfish dishes such as scallops or langoustines. It is best served at around 14°C, and while decanting is not strictly necessary, a short aeration can help open up its aromatic layers if served young.

Producer
Seguin-Manuel is a respected Burgundy producer known for combining traditional sensibility with a precise, terroir-focused approach. Under the direction of winemaker and owner Thibaut Marion, the domaine has earned recognition for wines that are clean, elegant, and expressive of their origins. Its Chassagne-Montrachet is a strong example of the estate’s ability to interpret great Burgundian vineyards with clarity and restraint.
