Description

Seckinger’s 2020 Riesling comes from Ruppertsberg Reiterpfad, a site considered a Große Lage, though its vineyards are still in conversion and the wine is marketed as a quasi Erste Lage. Made with a low-intervention approach, it stands out for its restrained fruit, taut mineral character and unusually clear, precise expression.

Tasting Notes
The nose is understated, with yellow fruit and apple alongside herbal, smoky and subtly yeasty notes, plus a gentle oxidative edge. On the palate, the wine is lean and taut, focused on minerality but with plenty of presence and drive.

Production
The Seckinger brothers’ parcels lie close to the forest, whose cooling influence shapes the site’s conditions. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, then undergo a very slow spontaneous fermentation and spend 16 months aging on the full lees. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining, with sulfur added only at bottling; harvest methods are not specified.

Food & Serving
Try it with grilled or poached fish, shellfish, or dishes featuring herbs and earthy vegetables. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short time in the glass should allow the wine’s subtle aromatic detail to emerge; decanting is optional.
