Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling shows a pale to medium straw-yellow hue with a subtle green shimmer, hinting at its youthful energy and brisk acidity. The nose is finely etched rather than exuberant: delicate notes of nectarine and white peach unfold slowly, woven with citrus zest, crushed stone and a gentle floral lift. On the palate the wine is focused, dry and linear, driven by a pronounced but beautifully integrated acidity that gives it terrific cut and length. The stone-fruit impressions from the nose quickly give way to a more savory, herbal profile: think wild herbs, fennel fronds and anise, with a spicy, almost saline edge coming from the red sandstone soils. The texture is precise yet slightly rounded by the maceration on skins, creating a lovely balance between grip and juiciness. This 2020 has the structure to age gracefully for 7–10 years from vintage, during which its herbal and mineral nuances will gain even more complexity.

Production
Deidesheim’s Petershöhle vineyard lies directly at the edge of the Pfälzerwald forest, on steep, old terraces that are difficult to farm but blessed with a cool microclimate and poor, red Buntsandstein (sandstone) soils. These conditions naturally limit yields, concentrate flavor and preserve acidity, which is typically very high in this site. The Seckinger family has worked these parcels organically (Bio), focusing on biodiversity and careful manual work in the vines. Harvest is done by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy clusters are selected. In the cellar, the grapes see a maceration of several days on the skins to temper the firm acidity and add texture, before being gently pressed. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, and sulfur is used sparingly thanks to the wine’s naturally high acid and stability, resulting in a Riesling that is both precise and vibrant, yet texturally engaging.

Food & Serving
This Riesling shines with delicately aromatic and herb-driven dishes that echo its own savory-spicy profile. Try it with ceviche or tartare of sea bass, sushi and sashimi, or grilled trout with fresh herbs and lemon. It also pairs beautifully with white asparagus, goat’s cheese, vegetable tempura, or lightly spiced Asian cuisine featuring ginger, lemongrass and coriander. Serve well chilled at around 8–10 °C; a quick 20–30 minutes in the fridge before opening is ideal. Younger bottles benefit from being opened 15–20 minutes before serving, and a brief splash into a small carafe can help the wine open up its more subtle herbal and mineral notes.
