Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling shows a pale to medium lemon hue with greenish reflections, hinting at both youth and vibrancy. The nose is finely etched and mineral-driven, with aromas of lime zest, green apple and white peach layered over wet stone, crushed slate and delicate herbal nuances. Subtle notes of citrus blossom and a touch of spontaneous fermentation spice add further complexity. On the palate, it is taut, linear and focused, with a firm backbone of acidity that carries precise citrus and orchard fruit flavours. The ungrafted vines lend an extra depth and an almost tactile mineral grip, giving the wine both tension and length. Saline notes and a cool, stony finish underline its origin in the Kieselberg vineyard. Still youthful in 2021, this Riesling has very good aging potential; expect it to gain further complexity, texture and tertiary nuances over 8–12 years in bottle, and possibly longer under good cellaring conditions.

Production
The Kieselberg site above Deidesheim is known for its stony, well-drained soils rich in gravel and sandstone, which force the vines to root deeply and naturally limit yields. Here, exceptionally, the Riesling vines are wurzelecht – ungrafted – because phylloxera never established itself in this specific pocket of terroir. Weingut Seckinger farms the vineyard organically (Bio), working by hand and with low intervention to preserve vine health and soil life. Harvest is carried out manually, allowing for strict selection of perfectly ripe, healthy grapes. In the cellar, the brothers favour a gentle, minimalist approach: careful pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and restrained handling, often with extended lees contact, to highlight the site’s mineral character rather than winemaking artefacts.

Food & Serving
This Riesling’s racy structure and mineral backbone make it an excellent partner for refined, subtly aromatic cuisine. Pair it with seafood such as oysters, ceviche, grilled trout or scallops, as well as sashimi, sushi or lightly spiced Asian dishes with ginger and citrus. It also works beautifully with goat’s cheese, fresh cheeses, mildly spiced vegetable dishes and classic German fare like white asparagus with hollandaise. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10 °C, in a medium-sized white wine glass. In its youth, a brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up aromatically, while older bottles should be handled gently and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.
