Description

Seckinger’s Maikammer Chardonnay is a precise, Burgundy-inspired Pfalz white, shaped by limestone-rich soils and a restrained approach to oak. Certified organic and made with minimal intervention, it offers a fresher, more mineral expression than the opulent, heavily oaked style often associated with Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes
The nose is initially reserved, with green, stony aromas, a hint of green banana and chalky minerality, joined by lightly toasted almond and a delicate note of fresh biscuit. Subtle oak spice adds definition without dominating the fruit.

Production
The grapes come from parcels at the foot of the Kalmit, west of Maikammer, where calcareous marl, sandy loam and loess provide a well-suited foundation for Chardonnay. They are selectively hand-harvested, then the must ferments spontaneously in used tonneaux. The wine matures on its full lees and is bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with roast chicken, grilled fish, scallops or creamy vegetable dishes. Its mineral, fresh profile also suits goat’s cheese. If it seems particularly closed on opening, give it a little time in the glass or a brief, gentle decant.
