Santadi’s Terre Brune is one of Sardinia’s benchmark reds, a powerful yet refined expression of Carignano from the island’s sun-drenched southwest. The 2021 vintage blends Carignan with Bovale, delivering depth, Mediterranean character, and a sense of place that has made this wine a reference point for Carignano del Sulcis Superiore.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Terre Brune shows a deep ruby color with impressive concentration. The nose is layered and inviting, with dark berries, plum, dried herbs, sweet spice, and a subtle mineral edge that reflects its coastal origins. On the palate, it is full-bodied and polished, combining ripe black fruit with balsamic notes, firm but well-integrated tannins, and a long, savory finish. While already expressive, it has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over several years, gaining complexity with bottle age.

Production
Produced in the Sulcis area of southwestern Sardinia, where sandy soils, warm days, and cooling sea breezes help Carignano retain freshness and aromatic lift, Terre Brune reflects a distinctly Mediterranean terroir. The grapes are carefully harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with an emphasis on extracting flavor and structure while preserving elegance, followed by maturation in oak to add complexity and roundness.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich meat dishes, grilled lamb, braised beef, game, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour before drinking to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to fully open.
