Description
Santa Margherita Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut is a refined expression of Glera from the steep hills of Valdobbiadene, the historic heartland of high‑quality Prosecco. Crafted in a dry Brut style, it delivers crisp, vibrant bubbles with a polished, modern character that’s ideal for both aperitifs and celebrations. As a Prosecco Superiore from the Valdobbiadene DOCG area, it carries one of the highest quality designations in the region, reflecting its elevated origin and careful production.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Prosecco Superiore shows a bright, pale straw-yellow color with fine, persistent bubbles forming an elegant mousse. The nose is fresh and fragrant, offering notes of green apple, pear, white peach and citrus zest, layered with hints of acacia blossom and a delicate mineral lift.
On the palate, it is dry, lively and well-balanced, with crisp acidity and a clean, refreshing finish. Flavors of orchard fruits, lemon peel and subtle white flowers are supported by a gentle creamy texture from the fine perlage. Its NV (non-vintage) style ensures consistent house character from year to year. Best enjoyed in its youth for maximum freshness and aromatic intensity, it will drink beautifully over the next 1–2 years after purchase.
Production
The grapes for Santa Margherita Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut are sourced from hillside vineyards in the Valdobbiadene zone of Veneto, where steep slopes, well-drained soils and a cool, ventilated climate help Glera develop bright acidity and pure aromatics. The fruit is typically harvested by hand to preserve berry integrity on the challenging terrain, and picked at optimal ripeness to balance freshness and flavor. Vinification follows the Charmat (tank) method: the base wine undergoes a second fermentation in pressurized stainless steel to capture fine, persistent bubbles while preserving the variety’s delicate floral and fruit notes. The Brut dosage keeps the wine on the drier side, emphasizing precision and elegance.
Food & Serving
This Prosecco Superiore is a natural choice as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with light, delicate dishes. Try it with oysters, prawns, sushi and sashimi, mixed seafood platters, or classic Venetian cicchetti such as crostini with baccalà mantecato. It also complements fresh cheeses, vegetable tempura, light pasta dishes and simple grilled fish. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F). Decanting is not necessary; simply pour into tulip-shaped sparkling wine glasses to concentrate the aromas and enjoy its lively, refreshing character.
Producer
Founded in 1935 in the Veneto region, Santa Margherita is one of Italy’s most recognized and widely respected wine estates, known for helping to bring Italian wines onto the world stage. While they are particularly famous for pioneering a modern, crisp style of Pinot Grigio, the winery also has deep roots in sparkling wine production across northeastern Italy. Santa Margherita works with prime vineyards in key appellations, including Valdobbiadene, to highlight the distinctiveness of local terroirs. Over the decades, the estate has built a reputation for quality, consistency and innovation, contributing significantly to the global appreciation of Prosecco and other premium Italian wines.
