Santa Barbara’s Mossone Merlot is a polished Marche red that showcases the finesse and depth of Merlot in a distinctly Italian setting. Grown on the hills between the Misa and Nevola rivers, it combines ripe fruit, elegant structure, and a touch of oak-aged complexity, reflecting both the estate’s respect for its land and the traditions of the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a lively, even ruby-red color. The nose is generous and layered, with morello cherry and blackberry at the forefront, followed by balsamic hints of licorice and well-integrated tertiary notes from barrel aging. On the palate, it is soft, full-bodied, and warmly enveloping, with flavors of ripe red fruit, vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. The tannins are supple and well balanced, giving the wine a smooth texture and a poised finish. While already approachable, it should also hold well over the next few years as its oak spice and fruit complexity continue to integrate.

Production
The grapes are cultivated on hillside vineyards between the Misa and Nevola rivers in Marche, where the location helps bring freshness and definition to the Merlot. Harvesting is carried out with attention to preserving fruit quality, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in new, fine-grained, medium-toasted barriques, which add structure, vanilla tones, and aromatic depth without overpowering the varietal character.

Food & Serving
This Merlot pairs beautifully with red meat, game, and aged cheeses, especially dishes with roasted, braised, or savory elements. Serve it at around 16–18°C to best express its fruit and oak complexity, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking it young to let the aromatics open fully.
