San Marzano Tramari is a fresh, quietly expressive rosé that captures the sunlit, sea-influenced character of Salento through the region’s signature Primitivo grape. Made in a crisp, aromatic style, it reflects the modern approach of Cantine San Marzano, founded in 1962 by a group of 19 local winegrowers to showcase Puglia’s native varieties.
Tasting Notes
Pale pink in the glass, Tramari opens with aromas of Mediterranean scrub, cherry and raspberry. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with delicate floral notes, bright red-fruit character and a refined, saline, mineral finish that evokes the nearby sea. Its lively, fruit-led style is best enjoyed young, while the wine’s freshness is at its most vivid.
Production
The Primitivo grapes grow in the heart of Salento, around 100 metres above sea level, where breezes from the Ionian and Adriatic seas temper the warm, sunny climate. The vineyards are trained on trellises in moderately heavy clay soils, with shallow, stony ground helping concentrate the fruit’s aromas. Harvest takes place in the first week of September. After a short period of skin contact, some of the must is drawn off before fermentation as a white wine; vinification and ageing in stainless steel preserve the rosé’s freshness and aromatic clarity.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at 10–14°C with Italian antipasti, fresh cheeses, seafood, oven-baked fish or fish soup. Its fresh, gently savoury finish also makes it a natural match for shellfish. Decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Cantine San Marzano was established in 1962 by 19 winegrowers in the heart of Puglia’s Salento region, with a shared aim of bringing local grape varieties to wider attention. The cooperative has become an international ambassador for the area, combining regional traditions with contemporary winemaking. Tramari also features the winery’s TramArt project, which presents its labels as limited-edition works of art; the wine has received international recognition, including gold at the Asia Wine Trophy and three stars from Vinibuoni d’Italia.
