Description

San Marzano Tramari Rosè di Primitivo Salento 2024 is a delicate, sun‑kissed rosé from the coastal vineyards of Southern Italy’s Salento peninsula. Crafted from 100% Primitivo, it turns a traditionally bold red grape into a refined, refreshing rosé that captures the light, sea breezes and easy elegance of Apulia. Named “Tramari” – literally “between the seas” – it reflects its origin between the Ionian and Adriatic, where warm days and cooling winds shape its distinctive character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Tramari 2024 shows a pale, luminous pink hue with soft salmon reflections, hinting at its gentle extraction and freshness. The nose is inviting and Mediterranean: ripe wild strawberries, red cherry and pomegranate mingle with notes of pink grapefruit, white flowers and a whisper of sea breeze and herbs. On the palate, it is dry, crisp and finely textured, with juicy red berry fruit at the core and a vibrant line of citrus that keeps everything lively. Flavours of crushed raspberry, cherry and watermelon are layered with subtle hints of rosemary and saline minerality, giving it a savoury edge that makes each sip moreish. The finish is clean and refreshing, with good persistence for a rosé. Best enjoyed young for its brightness and aromatic purity, it will drink beautifully over the next 1–2 years.

Production
Tramari is sourced from San Marzano’s vineyards in Salento, Apulia, where vines grow on limestone- and clay-rich soils under intense southern sun, tempered by constant breezes from both the Ionian and Adriatic seas. This maritime climate allows Primitivo to ripen fully while retaining freshness, an ideal balance for rosé. Grapes are typically harvested in the cooler hours to protect delicate aromas, then gently pressed with a short skin contact to capture color without extracting harsh tannins. Fermentation takes place at controlled low temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wine’s crisp fruit, floral notes and vibrant, saline lift, with no oak influence to maintain a clean, modern style.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile rosé that shines alongside Mediterranean cuisine: think grilled prawns, seared tuna, seafood pasta, tomato‑based salads, antipasti, charcuterie, and soft cheeses like burrata or fresh goat’s cheese. It also pairs beautifully with herb‑roasted chicken, vegetable tarts and lightly spiced Asian dishes. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C to highlight its freshness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle a few minutes before serving to let the fruit express itself fully.

Producer
Cantine San Marzano was founded in 1962 when a small group of local growers in San Marzano di San Giuseppe, in the heart of Apulia’s Primitivo country, joined forces to elevate the quality and reputation of their wines. Today it is one of Southern Italy’s benchmark producers, bringing together hundreds of growers and some of the region’s finest old‑vine parcels. San Marzano has been instrumental in transforming Salento from a bulk‑wine area into a source of characterful, premium wines, winning international acclaim for labels such as Sessantanni while maintaining a strong focus on local varieties and modern, precise winemaking. Tramari represents the lighter, coastal expression of their Primitivo, showcasing the elegance and drinkability now associated with contemporary Puglian wines.
