Description
San Giusto a Rentennano Chianti Classico Le Baroncole Riserva is a characterful, organically grown Tuscan red from one of Chianti Classico’s most respected estates. Built around 97% Sangiovese with a touch of Canaiolo Nero, it combines depth, freshness, and a distinctly old-world sense of place rooted in a former Cistercian monastery.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby core with garnet reflections that hint at both structure and evolution. The nose is layered and expressive, unfolding with graphite, humus, flint, cherry, tobacco, juniper, and a subtle note of nutmeg.
The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet beautifully balanced by bright acidity and finely integrated tannins. A smoky, persistent finish gives the wine extra dimension, while its balance and complexity suggest excellent aging potential over the coming years.
Production
This Chianti Classico Riserva comes from organically farmed vineyards in Toscana, where San Giusto a Rentennano benefits from a classic combination of limestone-rich soils, altitude, and a climate well suited to Sangiovese. Harvesting is carried out with care to preserve fruit purity and phenolic ripeness, followed by fermentation and maceration in concrete and steel tanks for around 18–20 days. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels and vats for 16–20 months, depending on the vintage and the wine’s character, before spending a further six months refining in bottle.
Food & Serving
A natural match for bistecca alla fiorentina, roast lamb, wild boar, braised beef, or aged pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young to allow the aromatics and tannins to खुल fully.
