Description

Saltaren Wines’ Labeja Riesling 2023 comes from the Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus vineyard, a renowned Rheingau site near the Rhine. Named after the Spanish word for “bee,” it reflects Alex Saltaren Castro’s focus on biodiversity and lively vineyard surroundings.

Tasting Notes
Pale and clear in appearance, the wine opens with pronounced herbal aromas alongside delicate notes of yellow stone fruit. A hint of lemon zest becomes more distinct on the palate, where fresh, precise acidity gives the flavours an energetic, focused finish.

Production
The Riesling grows on loess and calcareous loess-clay soils in Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus, above the railway line and close to the Rhine. Some of the grapes were destemmed before pressing. Fermentation and élevage took place partly in stainless steel and partly in 220-litre vessels, with the wine resting on its lees for around a year.

Food & Serving
Try it with freshwater fish, shellfish, herb-seasoned poultry or dishes featuring citrus and fresh vegetables. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary; open the bottle shortly before serving to let its herbal and stone-fruit aromas emerge.
