Saltaren Wines Labeja Riesling 2022 is a vibrant Rheingau white that combines purity, precision, and a clear sense of place. Sourced from the celebrated Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus vineyard, it reflects both the region’s limestone-rich soils and Alex Saltaren Castro’s focus on biodiversity, with “Labeja” — derived from the Spanish word for bee — nodding to the life in the vineyard.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling shows a bright, pale appearance with a distinctly youthful, luminous character. The nose is expressive and finely detailed, offering herbal notes alongside hints of yellow stone fruit, fresh lemon zest, and a clean, airy aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is taut, fresh, and precise, with lively acidity driving the flavor forward. The fruit is crisp and focused, supported by subtle complexity from its time on the lees. It should develop well over the next few years, gaining depth and nuance while retaining its characteristic freshness.

Production
The grapes come from the renowned Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus site in the Rheingau, close to the Rhine and planted on loess and calcareous loess loam. Some of the fruit was destemmed before pressing, and the wine was matured partly in stainless steel and partly in 220-liter vessels, where it spent around a year on the lees. This combination preserves purity while adding texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
A great match for fresh seafood, sushi, light poultry dishes, asparagus, and salads with citrus or herbal elements. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass will help the aromatic layers open up.
