Description

Saltaren Wines B******A Riesling 2021 comes from the celebrated St. Nikolaus site in Mittelheim, with its vineyard set beside the Romanesque Basilica of St. Ägidius, one of the Rheingau’s oldest churches. The third Riesling in Alex Saltaren Castro’s portfolio, it stands out as the most characterful of his wines and is made with a notably hands-off, artisanal approach.

Tasting Notes
On opening, the wine shows a pronounced reductive character, with aromas described as gunpowder and wet stone. The available information does not provide further notes on its appearance, palate or ageing potential.

Production
The grapes were hand-harvested from a parcel in the St. Nikolaus vineyard at Mittelheim. They were gently pressed in a restored basket press, then traditionally matured in wooden casks. Intervention was kept to a minimum: the wine received only a small addition of sulphur and was filled into bottle by hand, without electric pumps.
