Description
Saint-Joseph Rouge Silice from Coursodon is a refined Northern Rhône red that captures the elegant, peppery side of Syrah. Sourced from one of the appellation’s respected names, it offers a classic expression of Saint-Joseph’s granite-driven character and has long been admired for its balance, freshness, and finesse.
Tasting Notes
Expect a deep ruby color with inviting aromatic lift. The nose typically shows dark berries, black cherry, violets, crushed pepper, and a subtle stony, smoky edge that reflects the granite soils of Saint-Joseph.
On the palate, it is usually medium-bodied and precise, with juicy black fruit, savory spice, fresh acidity, and silky tannins. The finish tends to be long and mineral, giving the wine a graceful structure that should allow it to evolve nicely over the next several years.
Production
Saint-Joseph is one of the key appellations of the Northern Rhône, where steep granite slopes and a cool continental influence help shape wines of tension and aromatic complexity. Coursodon’s Silice cuvée is made to highlight this terroir, with carefully selected Syrah fruit and a vinification approach aimed at preserving purity, freshness, and the site’s mineral character.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled lamb, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and herb-roasted vegetables. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking it young to help the aromatics open up.
Producer
Domaine Coursodon is a well-regarded family estate in the Northern Rhône, closely associated with Saint-Joseph and known for producing elegant, terroir-driven Syrahs. The domaine has earned strong recognition for consistently expressing the appellation’s distinctive style, with wines that are both approachable in youth and capable of developing further complexity with age.
