Description
Saint Joseph Rouge Cuvée La Gloriette from Domaine Faury is a classic Northern Rhône Syrah in magnum format, offering both impressive presence and the promise of graceful evolution in bottle. Made in the respected Saint-Joseph appellation, it reflects the appellation’s reputation for structured, mineral-driven reds with a distinctly savory edge.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2015 Saint-Joseph Rouge typically shows a deep ruby colour with subtle purple reflections that hint at its youthful energy and concentration. The nose is usually expressive and refined, with dark berries, black cherry, violets, cracked pepper, smoked meat, and a touch of graphite or garrigue.
On the palate, expect a medium-bodied wine with firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of ripe black fruit balanced by peppery, mineral, and slightly earthy notes. The magnum format is especially well suited to a wine like this, helping it age slowly and steadily; while enjoyable now with air, it should continue to develop complexity over the next 8–12 years, and potentially longer in a good cellar.
Production
Saint-Joseph lies on the steep granite slopes of the Northern Rhône, where the vines benefit from excellent drainage, sunny exposures, and a cool continental influence that preserves freshness in Syrah. Domaine Faury is known for working with the character of this rugged terroir, and wines such as Cuvée La Gloriette are typically crafted with careful harvesting and traditional vinification to preserve aromatic purity, texture, and the region’s signature sense of place.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for roasted lamb, duck breast, game birds, beef tenderloin, or dishes with herbs, olives, and peppery jus. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses such as aged Comté or tomme. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening young or if you want to soften the tannins and bring out the aromatic detail.
Producer
Domaine Faury is a respected family estate in the Northern Rhône, with a long-standing focus on expressive, terroir-driven wines from appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, and Crozes-Hermitage. The domaine has built a strong reputation for precision and authenticity, and is regarded as one of the producers helping showcase the finesse and age-worthiness of wines from this part of the Rhône Valley.
