Description
Ronco Blanchis Collio Blanc de Blanchis Riserva 2019 is a refined white blend that captures the very soul of the Blanchis hill in Collio. Crafted from estate-grown Friulano, Chardonnay, Malvasia, and Sauvignon Blanc, it marries richness, tension, and aromatic complexity in a distinctly Friulian style. Drawing on the region’s long tradition of blended whites, this Riserva showcases how classic Collio varieties can achieve both elegance and depth when grown on historic slopes.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Blanc de Blanchis Riserva typically shows a bright straw-yellow core with subtle golden highlights, reflecting both ripeness and careful aging. The nose is layered and inviting: Friulano and Malvasia suggest ripe stone fruit, almond and a gentle floral lift, while Chardonnay brings notes of pear and brioche, and Sauvignon Blanc adds citrus zest, fresh herbs, and a hint of white pepper.
On the palate, this is a structured yet graceful Collio white, with a medium to full body wrapped around a spine of vibrant acidity. Expect flavors of white peach, yellow plum, citrus peel, and green apple, interwoven with nuances of acacia blossom, aromatic herbs and a delicate nuttiness from time in bottle. The finish is long and mineral-driven, marked by the characteristic saline edge of Collio’s hillside vineyards. As a Riserva from a high-quality vintage, it has the concentration and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 5–8 years, gaining added complexity and tertiary notes of honey, dried flowers and hazelnut.
Production
The Blanc de Blanchis Riserva is sourced from the estate’s own historic vineyards on the Blanchis hill in Collio, an area known for its steep slopes and ponca soils—layered marl and sandstone that give wines tension, minerality, and depth. Vines rooted in these well-draining, nutrient-poor soils naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor in the grapes. Harvesting is typically done by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the different varieties are vinified separately: gentle pressing, followed by a controlled fermentation to preserve aromatics and freshness. Depending on the house style and vintage, part of the blend may mature on fine lees in stainless steel for purity and in larger or older oak for added texture and complexity, before final blending and further bottle aging to qualify as a Riserva.
Food & Serving
This Collio Riserva is a versatile partner at the table, with enough structure for richer dishes but the freshness to complement delicate flavors. It pairs beautifully with seafood risotto, grilled or roasted fish (such as sea bass, turbot, or monkfish), shellfish, and refined vegetable dishes like asparagus or artichoke-based plates. It also works well with roast chicken, veal in light sauces, pasta with white truffle, and mature but not overly pungent cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatic detail and minerality. A light decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, revealing additional layers of fruit, spice, and savory complexity.
