Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Maremma Toscana Rosso shows a deep, luminous ruby core with violet reflections, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose is refined and layered: ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry are framed by notes of violet, Mediterranean herbs, graphite, cedar and a subtle spice from well-integrated oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet remarkably smooth, with ripe, finely grained tannins that glide across the tongue. Dark berry fruit and red cherry are lifted by hints of tobacco, licorice, cocoa and a gentle mineral edge that gives definition and length. The balance between richness and freshness is a hallmark of the style, and the finish is long, silky and persistent. Production
Rocca di Frassinello is situated in the coastal Maremma area of southern Tuscany, where sun-drenched days, cooling sea breezes and well-drained, mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for producing structured yet elegant reds. The estate’s vineyards are planted at carefully chosen elevations and exposures to capture both ripeness and freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to ensure optimal maturity and meticulous selection. In the cellar, the different varieties are vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve aromatic purity and varietal character, followed by maturation in French oak barrels to build complexity, integrate the tannins and bring a subtle, refined spice without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Maremma Toscana Rosso is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled lamb chops, braised beef, game birds, or slow-cooked ragù over pappardelle. It also pairs beautifully with aged pecorino, hard cheeses and earthy mushroom dishes. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decant for 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the bouquet and texture to fully open; older bottles will require a more delicate, shorter decanting to separate any sediment while preserving their developed aromas.

Rocca di Frassinello is a pioneering joint venture between the historic Chianti Classico estate Castellare di Castellina and the prestigious Bordeaux house Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). Founded in the early 2000s in the then-emerging Maremma zone, the project was designed to combine Tuscan terroir and Sangiovese with Bordeaux know-how and international varieties.
