In the glass, the 2019 Kiedricher Gräfenberg Spätlese shines a pale lemon-gold, with youthful brightness that hints at its freshness and long life ahead. The nose is deep and complex: flinty minerality and wet stone are layered with herbal nuances, citrus zest, white flowers, and ripe orchard fruits. There’s an underlying aromatic concentration that remains beautifully refined rather than opulent. On the palate, this Spätlese is juicy, poised, and incredibly elegant. Lively, precise acidity cuts through the natural sweetness, giving lift and tension to flavors of lime, white peach, green apple, and subtle exotic notes. Production
The Kiedricher Gräfenberg vineyard is one of Rheingau’s great steep, south- to southwest-facing slopes, rooted in stony, slate-rich soils with veins of phyllite and loess that give the wines their signature salty-mineral profile. Vineyard work is meticulous, with strict yield control and selective hand harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe Riesling grapes are brought in for the Spätlese. The fruit is typically picked later in the season at higher must weights, capturing both ripeness and vibrant acidity. In the cellar, gentle pressing and cool, controlled fermentation—often in stainless steel or large neutral casks—preserve purity, aromatics and finesse, followed by careful maturation on fine lees to enhance texture and complexity without masking the vineyard character.

Food & Serving
This Spätlese is wonderfully versatile at the table. Its interplay of sweetness and acidity makes it an outstanding match for spicy Asian cuisine (Thai, Vietnamese, Szechuan), aromatic dishes with ginger or lemongrass, and refined poultry or pork with fruit-based sauces. It also pairs beautifully with blue cheeses, foie gras, and delicate desserts that are not overly sweet, such as fruit tarts or citrus-based creations. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C. Decanting is not essential, but opening the bottle 30–60 minutes before serving or gently swirling in the glass will help the complex aromatics unfold.
