Rippon Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2017

Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2017 is a beautifully serious Central Otago Pinot Noir with impressive depth, intensity, and a clear sense of place. Made from mature vines planted in the 1970s and shaped by winemaker Nick Mills, whose training includes time at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, it combines pedigree, patience, and finesse in equal measure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, vivid Pinot Noir colour with a dark-fruited core. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of black cherry, plum, blueberry, violet, pencil lead, black tea, liquorice, pepper, and subtle oak notes. The palate mirrors the aromatic profile with dark cherry and blueberry at the forefront, supported by Asian spices, dried meat nuances, and a gentle earthy edge. It has real structure and concentration, with the kind of balance that promises excellent ageing potential. While already compelling, it will reward decanting now and continue to evolve gracefully over time.

Production
Rippon’s vineyard sits on the shores of Lake Wanaka in Central Otago, a region whose cool climate and well-suited soils are especially favourable for Pinot Noir. The vines used for this wine date back to the 1970s, allowing deep root systems to draw complexity and character from the site. Crafted with careful attention to detail, the wine reflects both the vineyard’s exceptional terroir and a vinification approach aimed at preserving structure, purity, and age-worthiness.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with duck, lamb, game birds, wild mushrooms, and dishes with earthy or Asian-spiced elements. Serve it slightly below room temperature, ideally around 15–17°C, and consider decanting for at least 30–60 minutes if opening it young, to help the wine раскрыve its full aromatic range and texture.
