Ridge Vineyards’ Petite Sirah Lytton Estate 2019 is a striking single-vineyard expression that puts Petite Sirah front and center, with just a touch of Zinfandel in support. Sourced from the historic Lytton Springs vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, where Petite Sirah has been grown since 1901, it showcases Ridge’s skill for making deeply concentrated wines with real regional character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an almost opaque color with a vivid purple edge. The nose is immediately expressive, with aromas of blue fruit, leather, licorice, lavender, menthol, and a stony, gravel-like undertone. The palate is powerful and mouthfilling, delivering the same layered notes in a vivid, polished way. Rich, intense, and beautifully balanced, it has the structure to age well for several years, developing even more complexity over time.

Production
The fruit comes from the Lytton Springs vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, a site with a long history of Petite Sirah cultivation dating back to 1901. The vines are farmed sustainably, and the grapes are destemmed before fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in American oak barrels, 20% of which are new, adding spice and framing to the wine’s natural depth.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled and roasted meats, especially beef, lamb, and game, as well as rich dishes with herbs or peppery sauces. It also pairs nicely with barbecue, braised short ribs, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the aromatics and texture fully open up.
