Ridge Monte Bello is one of California’s most iconic wines, and the 2019 vintage shows exactly why it has earned that reputation. First made in 1962, it builds on a much longer winemaking history at Monte Bello Vineyard dating back to 1886, combining historic pedigree with the precision and elegance Ridge is known for.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby colour that hints at its concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe plums, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone and subtle oak spice. On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied, yet remarkably balanced and refined. Dark fruit leads the way, followed by the savory complexity and mineral edge that make Monte Bello so distinctive. It is still very young, but the structure and depth suggest excellent aging potential over many years.

Production
Monte Bello Vineyard sits in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the cool elevation and rocky soils help shape the wine’s fresh, structured style and finesse. The 2019 vintage is a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with the grapes vinified to preserve both concentration and purity. It was matured for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, giving the wine added complexity without overwhelming its elegance.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roast lamb or wild mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if drinking now to allow the aromas and structure to खुलly open.
