Ridge Monte Bello is one of California’s great benchmark reds, a wine that has earned its legendary status through decades of consistency, finesse, and age-worthy structure. First released in 1962, it carries the legacy of the Monte Bello Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where vines have been cultivated since the late 1800s.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color with impressive concentration. The nose is layered and refined, offering ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and a subtle cedar-wood frame from the oak. On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied, yet remarkably balanced and elegant. Dark fruit sits at the core, supported by savory complexity and polished tannins. Still youthful now, it has the structure and pedigree to develop beautifully over many years in bottle.

Production
Monte Bello Vineyard sits high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where cool mountain conditions and mineral-driven soils contribute to the wine’s freshness, precision, and longevity. The blend is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contributing depth and nuance. Aging takes place for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, adding complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural balance.

Food & Serving
This is a wine best enjoyed with richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, prime rib, beef tenderloin, venison, or truffle-based dishes. Serve it at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening now to allow the wine to open up and show more of its aromatic detail.
