Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs has long been one of California’s benchmark Zinfandel blends, and the 2022 Magnum continues that legacy with all the depth, balance, and character the bottling is known for. Celebrating 50 years of this classic, it brings together Zinfandel with Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley.

Tasting Notes
Deep, almost inky in color, this wine opens with an expressive nose of ripe blackberries, blood orange, pepper, licorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with each note from the bouquet echoed in rich waves across a powerful but polished frame. The texture is generous and mouth-filling, yet the wine remains balanced enough to show precision and length. While already highly enjoyable, the structure and concentration suggest excellent aging potential, especially in magnum format.

Production
Sourced from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, the fruit is sustainably farmed and reflects the warm, sun-drenched terroir of California’s Sonoma County. The grapes were destemmed before fermentation, which was carried out with native yeast to preserve the site’s character and natural complexity. The wine was then matured for 16 months in American oak, including 17% new barrels and the rest between one and four years old.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for grilled ribeye, slow-braised short ribs, barbecue lamb, or richly seasoned sausages. It also pairs beautifully with hard aged cheeses and earthy mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to let the wine fully open.
