Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2021 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Geyserville is one of California’s most iconic Zinfandel-based wines, and the 2021 Magnum shows exactly why it has remained such a benchmark since the first vintage in 1966. Sourced from some of the estate’s oldest vines, this is a layered, characterful red that combines heritage, complexity, and outstanding balance in a large-format bottle built for impressive aging.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it pours a deep ruby color, hinting at the concentration to come. The nose opens with dark cherries, spice, cola, mint, and a subtle earthy undertone, giving the wine both brightness and depth. The palate is rich and finely tuned, with dark fruit at the core alongside notes of pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa, and a touch of smoke on the long finish. Despite its power, the wine is remarkably balanced and poised, with excellent aging potential thanks to its structure and concentration.

Production
Geyserville Vineyard is planted on exceptional old-vine parcels, some of which are up to 130 years old, making them among Ridge’s oldest holdings. Zinfandel typically makes up around 70% of the blend, with Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet completing the cuvée. The wine is aged for 13 months in American oak, with only about 10% new barrels, allowing the pure fruit and vineyard character to remain front and center.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for grilled or slow-cooked meats, barbecue, lamb, hearty stews, and richly spiced dishes. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the aromatics fully open, especially in its youth.
