Ridge Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is often described as the younger sibling to the legendary Monte Bello, made from the same esteemed Monte Bello vineyard but sourced from younger vines. With a blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it offers the Ridge signature of depth, structure and balance, while being approachable much earlier than its famous counterpart.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark colour with a hint of purple. The nose opens with lifted aromas of blueberry, cassis, liquorice, cola and a gentle sweet oak note from the barrel ageing. On the palate, it is full-bodied and polished, with flavours of ripe blackberry, cherry, freshly roasted coffee beans, pencil lead and sweet tobacco. Despite its richness, the wine remains elegant and vibrant, and it already drinks beautifully. It has strong ageing potential, but can also be enjoyed now while waiting for Monte Bello to reach its peak.

Production
The fruit comes from the Monte Bello vineyards in California, specifically from younger vines planted on the same celebrated site as Ridge’s iconic Monte Bello bottling. The grapes are fully destemmed before pressing, and after fermentation the wine matures for 20 months in American oak, with just over half of the barrels new. This careful élevage helps shape the wine’s layered profile and supple structure.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, venison, and richly flavoured dishes with herbs or earthy elements, such as mushroom risotto or braised short ribs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for one to two hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to खुल fully.
