Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2018 is the approachable younger sibling to the legendary Monte Bello, made from the same estate fruit and crafted in a style that captures Ridge’s signature precision and class. Sourced from younger vines on Monte Bello Vineyard, it offers a striking preview of the grandeur of the estate’s flagship wine while being ready to enjoy much earlier.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark color with a vivid purple rim. The nose is layered and inviting, with aromas of blueberry, cassis, licorice, cola, and a touch of sweet oak from the barrel ageing. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegantly structured, with flavors of ripe blackberry, cherry, freshly roasted coffee beans, pencil lead, and sweet tobacco. The balance is excellent, and while it is already beautifully open and delicious now, it should also continue to develop gracefully over the coming years.

Production
This wine comes from the Monte Bello Vineyard in California, with fruit taken from younger vines planted on the estate. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. After full destemming, the wine is fermented and then aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, just over half of which are new, giving it its characteristic warmth, spice, and sweet oak note.

Food & Serving
A great match for grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, braised beef, or rich dishes with mushrooms and herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, especially to let the aromatics and tannins fully open up.
