Description
Ricasoli 1141 Chianti Classico Brolio 2024 is a classic Tuscan red that brings together heritage, precision, and unmistakable regional character. Made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino, it reflects the historic vineyards of Castello di Brolio, where the Ricasoli family has been making wine since 1141.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the vibrant ruby-red color typical of youthful Chianti Classico. The nose is expressive and layered, with red cherry, wild berries, violet, and subtle herbal and spice notes, supported by a fine mineral edge.
On the palate, it is fresh and structured, with lively acidity, refined tannins, and the bright fruit core that makes Sangiovese so distinctive. The touch of Colorino adds depth and color, while the 9 months in used tonneaux give the wine gentle roundness without masking its energy. It is enjoyable now, but should also develop nicely over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from the historic Castello di Brolio estate in Chianti Classico, where the vineyards are rooted in a remarkably varied terroir of sandstone, clay-limestone, marl, sandy marine deposits, and ancient river terraces. This diversity helps create both complexity and balance in the finished wine.
Harvesting is followed by fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures of 24-27°C, with 14-16 days of skin maceration to extract color, aroma, and structure. The wine then ages for around nine months in second- and third-use tonneaux, preserving freshness while adding finesse and texture.
Food & Serving
This Chianti Classico is an excellent match for roast chicken, grilled lamb, wild mushroom dishes, pasta with ragù, and classic Tuscan fare such as bistecca or pecorino-based dishes. Serve at 16-18°C, and decanting for 20-30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially if enjoyed young.
Producer
Ricasoli 1141 is one of Tuscany’s most historic and important wine producers, with a legacy closely tied to the development of Chianti Classico itself. The family estate at Castello di Brolio has been central to the region for centuries, and Baron Bettino Ricasoli is widely credited with helping define the original formula for Chianti. Today, the estate continues to combine tradition, research, and vineyard expertise, earning a strong reputation for wines that express both heritage and place.
