Description

Renato Keber Collio Pinot Bianco Riserva 2018 is a refined expression of one of Collio’s most classic white varieties, crafted for those who appreciate depth, texture and longevity. This is not just an easy-drinking Pinot Bianco; it is a serious, ageworthy white that shows just how noble this grape can be in the hills of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Silky, structured and remarkably persistent, it reflects both the traditional craftsmanship of Collio and the unique touch of the Keber family.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Pinot Bianco Riserva typically shows a luminous straw-yellow color with golden highlights, hinting at its maturity and extended refinement. The nose is layered and elegant, offering notes of ripe orchard fruits like pear and yellow apple, complemented by white flowers, hints of citrus zest, delicate almond, and a subtle mineral/saline undertone that is very characteristic of Collio. On the palate, the wine is velvety and full-bodied yet finely balanced by fresh, linear acidity. Flavors of juicy pear, baked apple and stone fruit are intertwined with nuances of hazelnut, light spice and a gentle creaminess from extended maturation. The finish is long and persistent, with a savory, almost salty edge that invites another sip. Thanks to its structure and concentration, this Riserva has notable aging potential; well-stored bottles from the 2018 vintage should continue to develop greater complexity and tertiary notes (honey, dried flowers, nuts) over the next 5–8 years or more.

Production
This Pinot Bianco Riserva comes from the hilly Collio zone in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an area prized for its ponca soils—a mix of marl and sandstone that gives wines both minerality and finesse. Vines are typically planted on terraced slopes that benefit from excellent exposure, cooling breezes from the Alps and mild influences from the nearby Adriatic Sea. Grapes are generally hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve both aromatic purity and natural acidity. In line with traditional quality-focused Collio practices, fermentation likely takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, followed by an extended period of maturation—often on the fine lees and sometimes with partial aging in large or neutral oak—to build texture, complexity and the characteristic velvety mouthfeel that justifies its Riserva designation.

Food & Serving
Renato Keber Collio Pinot Bianco Riserva 2018 is a versatile food wine that shines with refined cuisine. It pairs beautifully with risotto (especially with seafood, porcini mushrooms or saffron), grilled or baked white fish, scallops, lobster, poultry in creamy or wine-based sauces, veal, and delicate pork dishes. It also works very well with soft-ripened cheeses and aged mountain cheeses, where its structure can stand up to richer flavors. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight both freshness and complexity; for optimal expression, consider decanting for 20–30 minutes, especially as the wine gains a few more years of bottle age.

Producer
Renato Keber is part of one of Collio’s respected wine-growing families, rooted in the rolling hills of Friuli-Venezia Giulia near the Slovenian border. This area has long been regarded as one of Italy’s top regions for structured, terroir-driven white wines, and producers like Keber have played a key role in showcasing the potential of varieties such as Pinot Bianco. The estate is known for a traditional, vineyard-first approach that emphasizes low yields, careful selection of grapes and minimal intervention in the cellar to let the Collio terroir speak clearly. Through consistent quality and a focus on ageworthy whites, Renato Keber has contributed to Collio’s reputation as a benchmark region for elegant, long-lived Italian white wines.
