In the glass, Rauzan-Ségla 2021 shows a deep, vibrant ruby color with purple reflections, hinting at both youth and concentration. The nose opens with dark berry aromas—blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum—interwoven with notes of baking chocolate, fresh mint, graphite/pencil shavings, and a touch of vanilla bean from sensitive oak aging. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a velvety, almost cashmere-like texture. Rauzan-Ségla lies in the heart of Margaux in Bordeaux, on a mosaic of deep gravel, sand, and clay soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot of great finesse. The 2021 vintage was guided by meticulous vineyard work, with careful bunch selection and hand harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes reached the cellar. In the winery, the fruit is sorted rigorously, then vinified parcel by parcel to express the nuances of each terroir. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels—typically with a significant but judicious proportion of new oak—to bring structure, aromatic complexity, and a silky texture without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.
