Description
Quintus Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2020 is a polished and expressive Bordeaux blend from one of the Right Bank’s most exciting names. As a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, it combines the estate’s modern precision with the elegance and depth the appellation is known for, making it a compelling choice for collectors and lovers of structured, age-worthy red wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to garnet color with impressive concentration. The nose is layered and refined, with dark berries, plum, violets, cedar, graphite, and subtle spice, evolving beautifully with air.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and harmonious, with ripe black fruit, fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a mineral backbone that gives it tension and length. The finish is long and graceful, and while enjoyable now with decanting, it should continue to gain complexity over the coming 10 to 15 years, or longer in a good cellar.
Production
Quintus is situated on a privileged Saint-Émilion site with a mix of limestone and clay soils that lend freshness, structure, and aromatic lift to the wine. The estate benefits from careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, allowing only the best fruit to be brought in at optimal ripeness.
Vinification is carried out with precision to preserve purity of fruit and terroir expression, often including parcel-by-parcel fermentation and aging in oak barrels to add texture, complexity, and a refined spiced character.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, or truffle-infused dishes. It also works well with mushroom risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Quintus has quickly established itself as one of Saint-Émilion’s notable modern estates, with a strong reputation for quality and meticulous winemaking. The property was created through the combination of historic vineyard holdings and has become part of the respected Domaines Clarence Dillon portfolio, which also includes Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. Its growing recognition reflects both the ambition of the estate and its consistent pursuit of excellence in Bordeaux.
