Description
Prunotto Barbera d'Asti Fiulot 2024 is a lively, fruit-driven red that captures Barbera in its most charming, youthful form. Named after the local Piemontese word for “young man,” Fiulot is all about immediacy, brightness and pure, unadorned pleasure in the glass. This is a Barbera crafted to be approachable from day one, showcasing the variety’s trademark energy and vivid fruit in a refined, modern style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Fiulot 2024 shows a bright, vibrant ruby-red color with purple highlights at the rim, underlining its youthful character. The nose opens with generous notes of juicy red cherry, fresh raspberry and wild strawberry, layered with hints of violet, crushed rose petals and a touch of sweet spice.
On the palate, this Barbera is medium-bodied and wonderfully smooth, with fresh, mouthwatering acidity that keeps the wine light on its feet. Flavors of red berries, pomegranate and sour cherry are joined by subtle herbal and floral nuances, finishing clean and precise with very gentle tannins. The 2024 Fiulot is designed for early drinking and is at its best in its first 3–4 years, when its vibrant fruit and freshness are at their peak.
Production
The grapes for Prunotto Barbera d'Asti Fiulot 2024 are sourced from selected Barbera vineyards in the gently rolling hills of Asti in Piedmont, where calcareous-clay soils and a continental climate with marked day–night temperature swings help preserve aromatic intensity and freshness. Harvesting is typically carried out in early autumn, with careful selection in the vineyard to ensure ripe, healthy fruit. In the cellar, the grapes are gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to highlight Barbera’s pure fruit profile and bright acidity. Maceration is relatively short to keep tannins soft and approachable, and the wine is aged in stainless steel (or neutral vessels) for a few months before bottling, maintaining its crisp, youthful character without overt oak influence.
Food & Serving
Fiulot 2024 is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with classic Italian fare such as tomato-based pastas, pizza with cured meats, grilled sausages, charcuterie, and simple roast chicken. Its bright acidity also makes it a natural partner for rich risottos, soft cheeses and savory tapas-style dishes. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C (60–64°F), to emphasize its freshness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary; just open the bottle a few minutes before serving to let the fruit express itself fully.
