Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, translucent ruby core typical of fine Nebbiolo, with subtle garnet reflections that will deepen with age. The aromatics open with red cherry, wild strawberry, and crushed raspberry, layered with violet, rose petal, licorice, spice, and a mineral, earthy edge that gives the wine its unmistakable Barbaresco character. On the palate, the 2021 Ovello Riserva is more expansive than immediately forceful, with a richly textured mid-palate framed by firm, polished tannins and vibrant acidity. The red and purple fruit profile is supported by savory undertones and a long, focused finish, suggesting excellent development over time. While already impressive for its balance and energy, this wine has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for well over a decade.

Production
Ovello is one of the prized Barbaresco crus, known for producing wines with both aromatic finesse and backbone, and the 2021 vintage brings particularly good fruit depth and freshness. The wine was fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity and precision, then matured in large oak botti, a traditional method that allows Nebbiolo’s character to remain at the forefront while adding subtle texture and complexity. Production was limited to 19,400 bottles and 2,000 magnums.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for rich Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, veal shank, wild mushroom risotto, tagliatelle with truffle, and aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for about 1–2 hours to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to open fully.
