Produttori del Barbaresco’s 2021 Barbaresco is a powerful yet classically poised expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most respected cooperative wineries. Awarded 95+ points by Wine Advocate, this large-format bottling showcases the remarkable depth, energy and ageing potential of the 2021 vintage—an exceptional year already being compared with 2016. Presented in a double magnum format, it is particularly well suited to long-term cellaring and celebratory occasions.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with youthful garnet highlights, the wine opens with layered aromas of black cherry, ripe plum and dark berries, followed by warming spices and a subtle note of nutmeg. On the palate, it is medium-bodied but impressively dense, combining rich fruit concentration with Nebbiolo’s characteristic freshness and structure. Fine, chalky tannins provide definition without bitterness, while vibrant acidity carries the wine through a long, energetic finish. This is a youthful Barbaresco with considerable complexity already in place, yet it should develop beautifully over the next 10–20 years, gaining further savoury, earthy and dried-flower nuances in bottle.

Production
Made from Nebbiolo grown in the historic Barbaresco appellation, the wine reflects the diverse limestone and marl-rich soils surrounding the villages of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso. Produttori del Barbaresco works with its member growers to harvest carefully by hand and select fruit from a broad range of distinguished vineyard sites. The grapes are traditionally fermented with extended skin contact before maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing the wine’s fruit, structure and site character to develop without overpowering oak influence. The 2021 vintage was bottled in April 2024.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to come gradually to temperature. The 2021 Barbaresco is an excellent match for braised beef, roast game, lamb, truffle dishes and rich mushroom-based pasta, as well as Piedmontese specialities such as tajarin with ragù. Decant for around 1–2 hours when serving now, particularly from this double magnum, while older bottles should be handled more gently and decanted only to remove any sediment.
