Description
Portinari Soave Classico Superiore Ronchetto 2020 is a refined expression of Garganega from one of Soave’s most respected small growers. Crafted from a single, carefully tended vineyard in the heart of the Classico zone, it delivers a beautifully layered white that’s both vibrant and textural. This cuvée captures the timeless elegance of Soave while showcasing the precision and purity that have made modern Veneto whites so sought-after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Ronchetto 2020 shows a bright, pale straw color with subtle green highlights, signaling freshness and youth. The nose is delicate yet detailed, opening with notes of white peach, ripe lemon, and pear, followed by hints of almond blossom, chamomile, crushed stone, and a gentle touch of wild herbs.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with a lively, citrus-driven acidity wrapped around a silky, almost saline texture. Flavors of lemon zest, nectarine, and green apple are layered with nuances of bitter almond, white flowers, and a subtle mineral edge that lingers on the finish. The balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality suggests that, while delicious now, this Soave Classico Superiore has the capacity to develop further complexity over the next 4–6 years, gaining more honeyed, nutty notes with time in bottle.
Production
The Ronchetto vineyard lies within the historic Soave Classico hills of Veneto, where volcanic and limestone-rich soils give the wines their characteristic tension and mineral depth. The Garganega grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only the healthiest, ripest bunches make it to the cellar, often in several passes to capture optimal maturity. In the winery, the fruit is gently pressed, and the must is fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to preserve aromatic purity and freshness. Aging on fine lees for several months adds texture and complexity, resulting in a wine that marries crisp precision with a subtle creaminess on the palate.
Food & Serving
This Soave Classico Superiore is a natural partner for refined seafood and delicate Mediterranean dishes. Try it with grilled sea bass, seared scallops, prawns with lemon and herbs, or classic Venetian dishes like risotto alla pescatora and baccalà mantecato. It also pairs beautifully with soft cheeses, vegetable antipasti, and light poultry dishes with citrus or fresh herbs. Serve at 8–10°C to highlight its aromatics and freshness; a brief 15–20 minute rest in the glass (or a quick splash into a small decanter) will help the wine open up and reveal its full array of floral and mineral notes.
