Why shop with us?
Pommard Vieilles Vignes Joillot 2022 is a classic Burgundy red that highlights the depth and finesse old vines can bring to Pinot Noir. Sourced from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most respected villages, it combines structure, perfume, and a distinctly savory edge that makes Pommard so sought after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with youthful purple reflections. The nose opens with dark cherry, wild strawberry, and plum, followed by notes of violets, forest floor, spice, and a subtle earthy minerality.
On the palate, expect a wine with firm but polished tannins, vibrant red and black fruit, and a precise, savory finish. The old-vine concentration lends extra depth and persistence, while the 2022 vintage should give the wine generous fruit and excellent balance. It has strong aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next 8–12 years, gaining more complexity and silkiness with time.
Production
Pommard lies in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, where limestone and clay soils help produce structured, age-worthy Pinot Noir. The old vines used for this cuvée naturally yield small, concentrated berries, and the wine is likely harvested by hand, as is traditional in the region.
Vinification in Burgundy typically focuses on preserving freshness and terroir expression, with careful sorting, gentle extraction, and maturation in French oak barrels to add texture and nuance without overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Pommard pairs beautifully with roasted duck, beef tenderloin, game birds, mushroom risotto, and dishes with earthy sauces. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if enjoyed young, to allow the wine to खुल fully and soften its tannins.
Producer
Joillot is an established Burgundian producer associated with classic, terroir-driven wines from the Côte de Beaune. The domaine is respected for its traditional approach and for expressing the character of each appellation with clarity, balance, and a sense of place.
