Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2008

Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2008 is one of Champagne’s most distinguished prestige cuvées, created as a tribute to Sir Winston Churchill, one of the house’s most famous admirers. Built around a Pinot Noir-led blend with Chardonnay adding lift and precision, it combines power, depth and elegance in a style that has made the wine an icon of the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden colour with very fine, persistent bubbles. The nose opens with layered aromas of ripe orchard fruit, citrus zest, brioche and toasted nuances, followed by subtle hints of nuts and maturity. On the palate, the wine is broad and structured yet remarkably fresh, with generous fruit, refined mousse and a complex, slightly toasty finish. The 2008 vintage has the balance and concentration to age beautifully for many more years, developing even greater depth and nuance over time.

Production
Sourced from selected top vineyards across Champagne, particularly in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs, this cuvée reflects some of the region’s finest terroirs. The grapes are harvested by hand, then vinified with great care before undergoing slow fermentation and extended bottle ageing in Pol Roger’s traditional cellars for a minimum of 10 years, allowing the wine to build complexity and finesse.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is a superb choice as an aperitif, but it also shines alongside seafood, shellfish, delicate fish dishes and mature cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and consider decanting only if you want to highlight its more developed aromatic layers, though it is not essential.
