Description
From Dorilli, nestled between the sea and the Hyblaean Mountains in southeastern Sicily, comes a Cerasuolo di Vittoria that captures the spirit of the island’s only DOCG. Made from the native grapes Nero d’Avola and Frappato, it offers a distinctive balance of tradition, freshness, and immediate charm. Its name, rooted in the Sicilian word for cherry, reflects the wine’s bright, fruit-driven personality and deep local identity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a vibrant ruby-red colour with youthful, luminous reflections. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate, lifted by a subtle Mediterranean freshness that reflects its coastal Sicilian origins.
On the palate, it is lively and generous, combining the structure and depth of Nero d’Avola with the perfume and elegance of Frappato. Expect juicy red fruit, soft spice, and a smooth, approachable texture with a lingering, moreish finish. While already delicious in its youth, it can also develop additional nuance over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from Dorilli, where the terroir is shaped by the interplay of sea breezes, warm Sicilian sunshine, and the mineral influence of the Hyblaean hills. This unique setting helps preserve freshness while allowing the fruit to ripen fully. The wine is produced from indigenous Nero d’Avola and Frappato, with careful harvesting and vinification designed to highlight purity of fruit, aromatic intensity, and the natural harmony between the two varieties.
Food & Serving
A versatile food wine, Cerasuolo di Vittoria pairs beautifully with Sicilian cuisine, tomato-based pasta dishes, grilled aubergine, roasted poultry, cured meats, and medium-aged cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 16–18°C, to showcase its freshness and aromatic lift. Decanting is not essential for a young vintage like 2024, but a short aeration can help open up the fruit and spice.
