Pierre Mignon Champagne Clos des Graviers 2012 is a single-vineyard Champagne from Breuil in the Marne Valley, made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Produced by the traditional method and aged for nine years on its lees, it combines the character of a historic vineyard, planted in the 1950s, with the depth and finesse of extended maturation.
Tasting Notes
Bright golden-white in colour with green-gold highlights, it has a lively, persistent bead. The nose brings together cocoa, white pepper and hints of tobacco leaf, with brioche, honey and hazelnut notes developed during its long lees ageing.
Generous yet balanced on the palate, the wine is marked by pronounced minerality and a creamy texture, finishing fresh and long. Its extended maturation has already given it notable complexity; enjoy it now to appreciate those developed notes, or cellar it carefully for further evolution.
Production
The grapes come exclusively from Clos des Graviers, a single vineyard in Breuil, where the vines date back to the 1950s. The source describes the site's microclimate and distinctive soils as contributing to the wine's precise structure and clear sense of place. Made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier using the traditional method, the Champagne spends nine years ageing on its lees.
Food & Serving
Its mineral freshness and creamy texture suit oysters, scallops and other shellfish, as well as roast poultry or a selection of mature cheeses. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is generally unnecessary; open shortly before serving and pour gently to preserve the fine, persistent bubbles.
Producer
Maison Pierre Mignon has been based in the Marne Valley since 1892 and is known for producing Champagne in the region. Clos des Graviers highlights the house's single-vineyard approach, drawing on the distinctive character of its Breuil site. The cuvée's defining features include its old vineyard, traditional-method production and nine years of lees ageing.
