Description

Philippe Pacalet’s Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques 2013 is a serious, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most respected Premier Cru sites. Known for its restrained power, earthy complexity and finely etched structure, it reflects both the character of Gevrey-Chambertin and Pacalet’s thoughtful, minimal-intervention approach.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2013 vintage shows a classic Burgundy profile with a deep ruby hue and subtle transparency. The nose is notably earthy and rustic, with undergrowth, forest floor and savory dark fruit notes unfolding with air. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and precise, combining gentle grip with firm structure and a distinctly masculine, mineral-driven feel. The finish leans a little austere in youth, suggesting a wine that will benefit from time in bottle to gain more flesh, harmony and depth. It should reward cellaring well over the coming years.

Production
Gevrey-Chambertin’s Premier Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques lies on one of the appellation’s most admired slopes, where limestone-rich soils and an expressive Côte de Nuits climate help Pinot Noir develop fragrance, tension and structure. Philippe Pacalet is known for working with carefully selected fruit and gentle vinification, allowing the vineyard character to speak clearly. The 2013 vintage, marked by a cooler growing season in Burgundy, contributed to the wine’s firm line and savory, focused style.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for dishes that can stand up to its structure and earthy depth, such as roast duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, mushroom risotto or braised lamb. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 30–60 minutes if opening young to help the aromas open and soften the wine’s more reserved edges.

Producer
Philippe Pacalet is one of Burgundy’s most admired modern artisans, widely recognized for his expressive, terroir-focused wines made with a natural, low-intervention philosophy. Based in the region, he has earned a strong reputation among collectors and sommeliers for crafting pure, site-transparent Pinot Noirs that highlight the nuance of each climat. His wines are frequently sought after for their authenticity and their ability to capture the essence of Burgundy with precision and finesse.
