Description
Philippe Pacalet’s Gevrey-Chambertin 2016 is a finely tuned expression of Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated villages. Sourced and crafted with Pacalet’s signature hands-off philosophy, it offers a pure, site-driven style that highlights freshness, texture, and elegance over heavy extraction.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a bright, translucent ruby hue that reflects the wine’s lifted, precise character. The nose is fragrant and energetic, showing wild strawberry, red cherry, and a touch of blackberry and raspberry, with the kind of aromatic clarity that makes Gevrey-Chambertin so compelling.
On the palate, the wine is structured yet supple, with crunchy red fruit, gentle grip, and good mid-palate volume. The finish is rounded and balanced, making it immediately enjoyable, though it should also reward a few years of cellaring as the wine gains more depth and nuance.
Production
This Gevrey-Chambertin comes from Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, where limestone-rich soils and a cool continental climate help Pinot Noir develop tension, fragrance, and complexity. Philippe Pacalet is known for working with minimal intervention and carefully respecting the character of the fruit, allowing terroir to remain front and center in the final wine.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile Burgundy that pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, veal, or poultry with a light red wine sauce. Serve slightly cool, around 15–16°C, and consider a brief decant if opening young, especially to let the aromatics widen and the structure soften.
Producer
Philippe Pacalet is one of Burgundy’s most respected modern négociants, celebrated for his artisanal, low-intervention approach and his ability to craft wines of precision and finesse. His work has earned a strong following among Burgundy lovers seeking purity of fruit, transparent terroir expression, and a style that feels both thoughtful and highly drinkable.
