Description
Pétrus 2014 is one of the most coveted wines in Bordeaux, and a true bucket-list bottle for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Sourced from Pomerol on the Right Bank and crafted entirely from Merlot, it stands apart from the classic Left Bank grands crus with its singular focus, tiny production, and unmistakable prestige.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pétrus 2014 is deep and concentrated, with a polished, dark-fruited core. The nose is beautifully layered with floral notes, blackberries, cedar, stone fruit, and mineral nuances, unfolding with remarkable finesse and depth.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet exceptionally refined, showing fine-grained tannins, a tight structure, and impressive harmony. The finish is long and persistent, building gradually with energy and precision. While approachable after some time in bottle, it has the concentration and balance to evolve gracefully for many years.
Production
Pétrus comes from a distinctive Pomerol terroir on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where soils and microclimate contribute to the wine’s rich, supple style. The estate is planted entirely to Merlot, including very old vines in some parcels, and production is kept extremely limited. Harvesting and vinification are carried out with meticulous attention to detail, aiming to preserve purity, texture, and the natural intensity of the fruit.
Food & Serving
Best served with refined dishes that complement its depth and elegance, such as filet of beef, lamb, truffle dishes, or roasted game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if the wine is being opened relatively young to help it раскры its aromatic complexity and soften its structure.
Producer
Château Pétrus is one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates, with its reputation built largely from the 1950s onward under the influence of Jean-Pierre Moueix and later his son Christian Moueix. Unlike the classified growths of the Left Bank, Pétrus achieved cult status through quality, rarity, and a deeply devoted following. Today it is recognized as one of the most iconic wines in the world, admired for both its exclusivity and its extraordinary consistency.
